There are a number of reasons why messages may not arrive in your inbox, including any custom filters you may have created, or forwarding. Messages can also skip your inbox and end up in your All Mail, Spam, or Trash labels, as the result of automatic spam filtering in Gmail.

I’m in the same boat. I haven’t received personal emails on several occasions on gmail, and it creeps me out because I wonder what other messages I’m not getting. I have a couple of question for you: are you checking & sending your email from a browser (from google.com) or are you using an email program like MS Outlook? And, the people whose emails you did not receive (such as the person who was sitting in front of you), if they try to send you another one, does that get undelivered as well? Or is it hit or miss–i.e. sometimes you receive the email and other times you don’t? Please let me know, because hopefully we can both get to the bottom of this! It’s driving me nuts.
