Which do you prefer: Internet marketing or Direct Mail marketing?

For example, would you rather get an email offering you a product, or an offer from the US Postal Service? It seems today there are so many more options on the internet to shop, it might be wiser to go ahead and open the email ad-types, as long as they DO NOT have attachments…all of us know to watch out for strange emails with attachments…they could have viruses. I am trying out my own internet business and could use feedback regarding newsletters, for instance about my site called: Special Home Products.
Do me a big favor in the meantime, and check it out…any suggestions or comments on it would be appreciated!
OK, like the responses I am getting, but still unsure which would be the best to use to promote a new business….let me hear from some more of you out there!

well im only 18 but i have just started college as a marketing major
Anyways, i subscribe to a lot of things only where i recieve things through the internet (clothing and store promotions) and i find that to be a very effective way to get me to visit the websites. BUT when i receive victoria secret emails for their promotions i delete it right away because i get so many catalogs through the mail which is easier to see what they have. (BUT THEN) i go online to order
so basically both have their ups and downs..
id suggest that if you already have clients leave it up to them.
for example when signing up for school they said i could fill things out online or on paper and i choose the paper hardcopy so i knew id always have it will all the possible computer problems out there

Everyone is internet marketing therefore you have to compete with sometimes tens of thousands of people doing the same thing you are doing.
Direct Mail however, gives you specifically a moment of undivided attention with your prospect.
Research conducted by InnoMedia and the USPostal Service revealed that nearly 78% of Americans go get their mail right when they get hom from work, and that 72% of them, go through their mail before doing anything else.
Research also revealed that 99% of post cards get read and 73% of envelopes get opened.
The direct mail industry and others in the marketing field have found that the reason some companies have great success with direct mail…getting response rates varying from 8% to 15%, and then even as high as 25% to 40% using variable data graphics and content….and why the rest of american businesses only gets about 2% response, is simply because most businesses do not apply design or content elements in their mail piece that have proven to be effective. Most of the time they design their own mail….and it fails.
So what you need to do to is learn how to be successful at direct mail and you will have a very decisive advantage over your competition.

Both internet marketing and direct mail marketing are good strategies depending on the company/product/service you are promoting. It is also faulty to think you have to choose one or the other. Most successful marketing campaigns use multiple media in a coordinated strategy in order to maximize reach and frequency. For example, you may have a website that has a lot of details about your company, order forms, etc. A postcard mailer letting a targeted audience know about the website and potentially a special offer, will help to boost traffic to your site. Likewise, you could use an e-mail campaign to get people to sign up to get a catalogue of your products. The interenet is attractive because your business is an internet-based business. However, many potential customers will never find you on the internet if you don’t tell them via some non-internet means (direct mail, radio, print ads, etc.) I hope this helps! Good luck!
