Do hardrive washers really work when you are trying to erase your online/email trail?

Can a P I with hard drive recovery skills still recover your emails and surfing habits even after you washed them with one of those hard drive scrubbers on the market?

No, I want to just delete internet history IM and email history so that it can never be detected on my computer.
