How open is the rate for Master at Arms?

I am 99.9% sure about enlisting in the Navy right now. The .1% is that I am worried that I am going to get to MEPS and talk to the counselor and I am going to be told that MA (Master at Arms) isn’t available. I know I am eligible for this position so that wouldn’t hold me back.
What I am asking is if MA is high in demand as in everyone wants to be a MA. What happens to me if I go to MEPS and I find out that MA isn’t currently available? I can’t really ask the recruiter because, well he’s a recruiter.

There’s always room at the bottom; so getting it as rate shouldn’t be a problem but the last I heard it’s still pretty tough make rank.

Well you see the recruiter is the one that fills out your MOS and then gives it to the guys at MEPS so you might want to talk to the recruiter ther wise you are more then likely going to be screwed over. Make sure YOU do the research and find out the Particular MOS numbers so when you get to MEPS and you get to that point and they verify what you want your MOS to be you know for a fact what you are going into. Then after you complete basice training you will know for sure if the MOS is availibe. and I **** to break it to you, but they may give you that MOS at meps and you will then find out it wasn’t availible. So Make sure you know what you want to do and you have a back MOS just in case. This happened to me so that’s why I’m telling you this because They will give about thirty seconds to tell them a diffrent MOS or they will pick it for you.

The needs and openings available are going to change each day. What might be open today, may not be 2 weeks from now. Yes MA’s are necessary but if they are getting enough people entering into that position then they aren’t going to require as many more. If it is already written into your contract that it is what you are going to do, then it shouldn’t be a problem. Did you take the ASVAB and that is what you requested? Did the recruiter you do all the paperwork with have it in your file for it? If for some reason it isn’t available right away (because you may need to wait up to 1 year before you leave) then what are other areas you have looked at. you should have a backup plan.
For the Navy it isn’t MOS, it is a Rating. When you enlist your Rate your pay grade like E1, E2, E3 & Rating is your job, MA, SK, YN, etc…

it is currently CREO 2 and 3 across the board: at or above manning levels. you may get in, but you may be waiting up to a year before you can ship.
