why is it so hard to find a simple, functional wordpress newsletter widget plug-in?

Hi, I have a wordpress website. I want my visitors to sign up for a newsletter email list. I want to have a widget in the right sidebar(my theme supports widgets fine) that has a field for name and a field for email. when they submit it gets stored.
I doesn’t seem like much to ask but when I search for one, a lot of them are very very old and not updated.
Does anybody know of a plugin that will do this for me that actually works? Maybe some of you currenly use one and can suggest.
