should i open a fixed or variable interest rate account?

is the interest rate for savings accounts likely to increase within the next year?
the fixed account has an interest of 5.75%, whereas the variable account has an interest of 4.75%.

Interest rates will go up some come late fall, but not much. Not until next year. If you can get the fixed rate for just a year’s time then switch it to something else, then I’d do that.
