I don’t know the number but I do know that it is higher than the rate of divorce for ‘conventional’ relationships. Much higher, I think.

I actually tried to find the answer to this awhile back. People believe that the divorce rate is very high among people in open relationships, but there is no hard evidence to back this up. The one compelling piece I read once was about an open-minded interviewer who sat with and talked to couples who were in these kinds of relationships, and he felt that these were very nice, honest, well-meaning people…but they were very lonely in their marriage and their life.

There are no solid numbers for this since many people are very private about their *** life. All estimates I have ever read though are all less than 20%, most of them being 10% to 15%.
Having been in the swinger lifestyle for five years my wife and I have known several couples who have gotten divorced, however not a single one of them was because they had an open relationship. Their issues were the same as many other couples that divorce. In several of the cases they had used swinging to try to “fix” their dying relationship, and for awhile it did, however all it did was prolong the inevitable.
Those couples that enter into an open relationship with a strong, secure marriage to begin with don’t get divorced.
Those that don’t have a strong, secure marriage to begin with get divorced. But they would have gotten divorced eventually regardless of having an open relationship.
As a good friend (a non-swinger friend) once said to my wife and I after she had gone to several swinger parties with us: “Swinging is like the icing on the cake of marriage. But if all the ingredients aren’t in the cake to begin with to make it solid, all the icing in the world won’t keep it from crumbling.”

its pretty dang high ,,, Ive counseled couples repeatedly in open relationships, some one always gets hurt.
