Why would I want to do an email newsletter for my blog?

I’ve run across this spot. It’s free for up to 1000 subscribers… but I can’t quite decide if it’s a necessary thing in this world of “now”-everything.

PS: this is about converting the blog’s RSS feed to an email newsletter. Left that out on the original post. Still, how useful would this be?

Newsletters are best if you’re blogging to a general audience on things rather than just things relevant to your friends so that anonymous people can sign up to get it without bookmarking your blog.

well, if you want to run the risk of spamming a bunch of people’s email boxes and getting your blog shut down as the source of the spam mail, by all means, go right ahead.
your blog page should have an area where people can sign up for newsletters. there’s nothing that will drive me to NOT even look at someone’s blog like getting an unsolicited email.

It’s not necessary and to be honest I wouldn’t touch it. The whole point of an RSS feed is that your readers can subscribe to it, if they want to, and pay attention to or ignore it at their convenience. An email version of an RSS feed would only serve to annoy your users, IMO. Just publish your blog and if your readers want to keep up, they’ll add your RSS feed.
