Is there a way to negotiate a lower interest rate on existing credit cards?

posted by admin in Credit

Has anyone ever negotiated a lower interest rate on an existing credit card? I have paid down all my cards and my credit has since gotten better. I still have these ridiculously high rates (like 20% and higher). I do not want to open new cards with lower interest rates because then I will lose out on credit history. I do not plan on continuing to use these cards, maybe just a gas purchase here and there.

Can I renegotiate my credit card interest rate?

I have a few cards that are locked in at high interest rate (20%+), I took those cards when i idn’t have much of a credit history. Now I have a credit history and quite a good credit score. I have paid my bills on time and at least paid the minimum. I just wish that I could get a better rate. How do you go about renogociating a rate as I don’t want to open a new CC account with a lower rate.

should I close Credit card since they raised interest rate?

I have a CC with a high balance I have been paying on and never missed a payment. Now the CC company is raising the interest rate. I have the option of clossing the account and keeping my present rate. Which will hurt my credit report more? Closing the account and keeping a lower rate or keeping the card open and paying a higher rate?

I’m 18 years old and I would like to open a major credit card but I’m having a hard time finding one that has a low interest rate. Any suggestions on who to go with or where to look on the web?

Does the time length of open credit cards help your rating?

I was under the impression that if you keep your oldest credit card open, as long as it is in good standing, that it will help your credit rating. Is this true or a flasehood by the CC co’s to make you keep unnecessary cards open?

Am I taking a chance on possible identity theft?

In Laws asked when visiting us for copy of our daughter’s social security card a couple of years ago b/c they were setting up a 529 college fund for her. I gave them the copy, but now I’ve found out that they never lock the door to their house. The live in a rural, remote, sparsely populated area (town of about 300 people), but they live in a neighborhood that has house break ins ( I read this in their neighborhood newsletter which is available online…it reports among other things, crimes in the area, kind of like a neighborhood watch)….fortunately they have never had a house break in (yet?!)…would you be concerned? Daughter is only 2, and I can’t get free credit report without sending a truckload (which is good) of identification papers to the 3 credit bureaus….I thought of asking for the copy of her card back, but it’s been 2 years and they would probably be offended if I asked for it back…..anyway, is this cause for concern?
